Shiatsu

Shiatsu-Do is a Japanese body therapy working within the principles of Chinese medicine. It has been used for thousands of years to maintain health and longevity.

Shiatsu literally means ‘Finger pressure’, although thumbs, elbows, palms and knees are also used.

Shiatsu works with our energy, called Chi, which flows through our organs and all body areas along pathways known as meridians. These meridians contain specific points of high energy known as ‘Tsubos’. Due to stress, trauma and injury, theses pathways become blocked and create symptoms.

In shiatsu we don’t distinguish between mind and body as separate entities. Stress that affects the mind will create physical symptoms and physical stress will result in psychological symptoms.

Jeanne uses a variety of techniques, including stretches; rotations and structural corrections to enable the free flow of Chi.

Treatments often include advice on diet, exercise and general lifestyle. Shiatsu-Do means ‘The way of Shiatsu’; where the practitioner is committed to maintaining their own health and self-development in order to enhance their shiatsu.
